CARPATHIAN FOREST'S KOBRO JOINS DEN SAAKALDTE

Norwegian Black Metallers DEN SAAKALDTE have recruited Anders Kobro, long time drummer with the legendary CARPATHIAN FOREST, to their ranks to replace the departing Uruz. Kobro, will join the band with immediate effect, and begin rehearsing for next years’ live appearances and upcoming recording sessions.

Originally founded as a solo project by guitarist Sykelig in 2006, DEN SAAKALDTE’s line up now includes Niklas Kvarforth (SHINING, SKITLIV) on vocals, Seidemann (1349, PANTHEON I) on bass, Kvebek (PANTHEON I, ex 1349) on guitars, and Honey Lucius (DHG) on synths and effects. The band recently inked a deal with Pulverised Records for the release of the second full-length album, due out in 2010, and new material is currently being prepared.

Due for release shortly on Aesthetic Death Records, are two versions of DEN SAAKALDTE’s “Øl, Mørke og Depresjon”, which was originally released in early 2008 on Eerie Art Records. The new versions will be available on CD in Digipack format, and on LP in a gatefold edition, limited to 500 copies. Both versions will include bonus tracks not previously available, with artwork designed by DEN SAAKALDTE’s Sykelig.

In addition to the above, a double LP edition of DEN SAAKALDTE’s debut full-length album “All Hail Pessimism” will be released soon on Temple of Darkness Records. The edition will be limited to 500 copies, and will include as a bonus a cover of “Wheel of Fortune”, a track from the legendary US band PENTAGRAM,

STROSZEK'S "LIFE FAILURES MADE MUSIC" RELEASED

“Life Failures Made Music”, the sophomore album from STROSZEK, the acoustic project founded by FROSTMOON ECLIPSE’s Claudio Alcara, has been released on the God is Myth Records label. Along with Alcara on vocals and guitars, STROSZEK’s line up comprises Richard on drums and FROSTMOON ECLIPSE’s Davide on bass - a trio of musicians with a formidable amount of musical experience between them. A follow up to 2007’s “Songs of Remorse”, the new album comprises nine tracks. Track listing as follows:

Alcara is the guitarist and founder of FROSTMOON ECLIPSE, one of Italy’s original, and longest serving, Black Metal bands. With STROSZEK, however, he has always been able to successfully distance himself from the old-school black metal for which he is better know, and use his considerable skills as a guitarist and song writer to produce music that is richly melodic, hauntingly melancholic, and at times, a crushingly sad commentary on his innermost thoughts and life experiences.

In addition to “Life Failures Made Music”, 2009 also saw STROSZEK release the “The Wild Hunt” EP, which hit the streets in September of this year and sold out within days of its release having been announced. Alcara is currently working on FROSTMOON ECLIPSE’s fifth full-length album.

PROFANE PRAYER DEMO RELEASED FOR FREE DOWNLOAD ON VRANGSINN'S MISANTROF LABEL

“Bloodred Fullmoon” the 2006 demo from Greek Black Metallers PROFANE PRAYER has been released by Misantrof, the label founded and headed by CARPATHIAN FOREST’s Daniel Vrangsin, through its Music Archives, the division of the “anti” label that was set up to house and release a historical music collection of rare, deleted, or difficult to find items, and includes material from bands such as DEATHCULT, ORCUSTUS, NIDINGR and AMOK, amongst others. Formed in 2005 by guitarist G, vocalist The Saint (HORDES OF DECAY) and drummer/guitarist THC (HORDES OF DECAY), PROFANE PRAYER’s lineup now includes Sick Mind on bass. Drawing its early inspiration from traditional Black Metal bands such as CARPATHIAN FOREST and DARKTHRONE, PROFANE PRAYER has spent the intervening years developing its own sound and cutting its teeth on the local scene, regularly supporting bands like SEPTIC FLESH, THE HAUNTED, DESTRUCTION, and MOONSORROW. The band has just finished recording and mastering the debut full-length album “Eye of Sin”.

Talking about the collaboration with Misantrof, G commented: “We had run a special promotion offering the demo for just postage costs in September and had a lot of takers, so we suggested to our manager that we make it available for free download on MySpace. Since MySpace sound quality is pretty bad, she wasn’t too taken with the idea, and instead played it to Vrangsinn, who she also manages, and he liked it enough to offer us a release through the Archives. That’s a much more satisfactory way of doing things. We have the support and facilities offered by Misantrof, and, more importantly, the material is available in the highest possible sound quality. Considering that one of the reasons we started off as musicians in the first place was CARPATHIAN FOREST, who our manager also works with, it’s quite a coincidence how everything has worked out. ”

PROFANE PRAYER will also feature on Misantrof’s “Holy Fucking Antichristmas 2009” compilation, which will be released on December 13. The track, which was especially written for the compilation and was recorded and mastered by George Bokos at the Basement Studios in Athens, will receive its live debut on the 20th December, when the band appears at the 10th anniversary concert for the Metal Eagle Magazine at the Sin City Club in Athens. NORWEGIAN EXTREME METALLERS BYFROST SIGN WITH PAINKILLER RECORDS

Netherlands based PAINKILLER RECORDS (a sub label of Apollon Entertainment UN Limited) has added Norwegian extreme metallers BYFROST to its roster, and will release the band’s debut full-length album “Black Earth” in the spring of 2010. A follow up to the self-released EP “Byfrostmetal”, track listing for “Black Earth” is as follows:

Bergen-based BYFROST started out in 2007 when Heavy Harms and R.I.P Meister decided to form a band that would create a sound from the of merging cold, dark riffs together with melodic ones. With HeavyHarms taking vocals, the two guitarists recruited a drummer and bass player and recorded and released the “Byfrostmetal” EP in 2008. Soon after, the four-piece became a three-piece with R.I.P Meister switching over to five-string bass, and HELLISH OUTCAST’s Alkolust taking over on drums.

With a permanent line up now in place, BYFROST went on to play live both locally and throughout Europe, and in 2009 began work on “Black Earth”. The album, which includes a guest appearance by ENSLAVED/AUDREY HORNE guitarist Arve Isdal on the track “Desire”, was recorded at the Conclave/Earshot Studios in Bergen, and produced by Herbrand Larsen (ENSLAVED) and Bjørnar E. Nilsen (VULTURE INDUSTRIES, BLACK HOLE GENERATOR). Artwork is currently being prepared by Christian Sloan Hall who has worked with artists such as TESTAMENT, DIMMU BORGIR, SLAYER etc.

Title and track listing have been announced for Black Metallers EPISODE 13’s upcoming album. “Death Reclaims The Earth” will be the follow up to 2009’s “Pitch Black” and will be the band’s third full-length album. Recording and mixing is currently under way at the Midasin Kulaklığı Studios in Ankara, and once completed, the album will be mastered at Sweden’s Necromorbus Studio, known for its work with bands like WATAIN, ONDSKAPT, FUNERAL MIST etc. Track listing for “Death Reclaims The Earth” as follows:

“Death Reclaims The Earth” sees the return of vocalist Ozan Akyol, who, together with guitarist Murat and drummer Nursuz (ZIFIR), founded EPISODE 13 in 2001 (the band’s current line up includes Sermet Durusan on bass and Serkan Zengin on guitars). The front man took a temporary break from the band to complete his studies during the recording of “Pitch Black”, but although absent on vocals, his input on the sophomore album was still considerable. Three tracks from “Death Reclaims The Earth” were debuted at Norway’s Inferno Festival earlier this year, and Akyol, a brooding and compelling live performer, whose vocals add a chillingly sinister touch to the new material, had this to say about the forthcoming album: “We really used “Pitch Black” to move away from the melodic aspects of our debut “Tabula Rasa” because you can’t express brutality and contempt with pleasant keyboard interludes, and with “Death Reclaims The Earth” we can finally say that our sound accurately reflects our view of humanity”.

AVANT-GARDE METALLERS VULTURE INDUSTRIES HIT THE STUDIO TO RECORD SOPHOMORE ALBUM

Norwegian Avant-Garde Metallers VULTURE INDUSTRIES have entered the studio to begin recording the follow up to their 2007 debut full-length album “The Dystopia Journals”. The new album is expected to contain 7 tracks, and come in at somewhere between 40 and 45 minutes in length. As is usual with VULTURE INDUSTRIES, they will be using the Conclave and Earshot Studios, which is owned by the band’s front man Bjornar E. Nilsen, who, aside from his vocal duties with VI and BLACK HOLE GENERATOR, is also a producer.

Commenting on the new album Nilsen said: “It feels great to be working with the new material and the vibe in the studio has been really good so far. The songs are quite long this time, with the shortest one clocking in at 5 minutes. We’re really excited about the new material and feel that we have stumbled on a sound that is distinctly our own”.

VULTURE INDUSTRIES is based in Bergen and is part of the prolific local music scene. The band’s line up is a veritable “Who’s Who” of black and extreme metal musicians. Aside from Nilsen himself on vocals, synths and programming, band members include guitarists Øyvind Madsen (SULPHUR, ex-ENSLAVED, sessions guitars for DEATHCON) and Eivind Huse (SULPHUR, ex-SYRACH), Kyrre Teigen on bass and Tor Helge Gjengedal (MALICE IN WONDERLAND, ex-SULPHUR, ex-TAAKE) on drums. Assisting with the production are Herbrand Larsen (ENSLAVED) and Arve Isdal (ENSLAVED, AUDREY HORNE).

So far most of the drum tracks for the new album, which is scheduled for release on Dark Essence Records in April in Norway and May in Europe, have been recorded, and regular updates and photos from the studio sessions will be posted on the band’s MySpace page at www.myspace.com/vultureindustries
